Before we dive into the details, a quick reminder of how the tie-breakers work:
- Points
- Win Percentage
- Head to Head results (win-loss-draw)
- Head to Head quota results (who won by the most amount in matchups)
- Division Record
- Season Quota performance
- Coin flip
Now that the IT Nerd has some time on his hands, let’s take a deep dive on what the playoff picture looks like for each of the flights.
Flight 1
The Flight 1 playoffs are set. With a pre-played match between DJ and Merritt happening on Tuesday and TJ and Mike Carroll playing before the rain came on Thursday, the seedings are set for Flight 1:
(#1) Mike Carroll vs. (#4) Merritt Daniels
(#2) Steve Donegan vs. (#3) Dan Kane
Flight 2
Assured Playoffs: Paul Daniels (Could be any seed) – If he loses and all others win, he would be surpassed by Morgan, Denny, Ed Van Slyke and be tied with Keeley on 27 pts and a 9-7-0 record. Paul beat Dan in their Week 1 matchup, this giving him the tiebreak.
In Contention: Ed Van Slyke, Jim Morgan, Denny Welch, Dan Keeley, Sean Mott
There are A LOT of scenarios that can play out as a result of this. The match to watch is the Jim Morgan-Sean Mott match. Sean Mott has an outside chance, but he must first beat Jim Morgan and then have other results go his way.
Flight 3
Assured Playoffs: Marty Donegan, Flight 3 #1 Seed. Jon Carroll, Seeding TBD
In Contention: Joe Donegan, Tom Donegan, Mike Mahar, Mike Costello
A simple win by Joe would lock down Flight 3, Division 2 (#2 seed), but a draw or loss opens things up for Tom Donegan, Mike Mahar to take the division with a win.
Should be an exciting week to end the 2023 regular season!
