It’s now down to the final matchups. For the first time in TBO history, the IT Nerd won’t be able to ride around with his trusty whiteboard with live updates of the final match. That’s because the IT Nerd is actually in a final (and will likely blow it).
Final Matchups
Flight 1 – Mike Carroll (14) vs. Steve Donegan (11).
IT Nerd Prediction: Having never sniffed a final, Mike can’t handle the pressure and blows it on #16, proceeds to go OB on #17 and Steve seals the deal with his trademark short game and multiple birdies. Steve Donegan to win.
Flight 2 – Ed Van Slyke (12) vs. Sean Mott (11)
IT Nerd Prediction: Ed is on a real hot streak, winning 8 of his last 10 matches. However, Sean is starting to catch fire at just the right time and snuck into the playoffs. Can Sean’s magical run continue or is Eddie just too hot to handle? The IT Nerd thinks this will be an extremely close match, but Eddie is on too much of a hot streak to be stopped. Ed Van Slyke to win.
Flight 3 – Marty Donegan (9) vs. Mike Mahar (6)
IT Nerd Prediction: While Marty had an excellent season, he did most of his winning on the front and had a significant amount of ties on the back. Mike Mahar on the other hand has strung together an impressive streak of wins over these last few weeks. IT Nerd thinks this match ends in a draw and heads to a playoff. Marty’s average on the playoff holes of #1, #13, #14 is significantly better than Mike’s and Marty ends up taking it in the playoff. Marty Donegan to win.
