Make-ups outstanding

If you have played one of the below make-ups, please take a photo of the card and send it to Chris or myself via text or email. The quicker we can get the scores entered, the quicker we can get back to normal.

Remember, all make-ups are due by the end of regular play on August 6th (that’s a week and a half from this writing, gents!). A good way to cut some of these down is to agree to use your scores from a current week as a match in a previous week.

For Example, Week 14 is on the back. That means if a match from Week 10 or 12 agreed that whatever they score for Week 14 will be applied to Week 10 or 12 as well.

Make-ups yet to be played (9 total):

Week 10

  1. Bill Kirkby vs. Art Brillanti

Rain-out Plan…

I’ve talked with the Commish about how we wanted to handle the rain-outs down for Week 10 and Week 11. Below is the results of those discussions…

  • The one outstanding match for Week 9 (Massa/Denny), all Week 10 and all Week 11 matches must be made up by August 6th (Week 15). That gives you nearly 3 weeks to make up the matches. Please note that is a hard date.
  • If a match is not made up by that date, it will be declared a 1-1 tie and there will be zero points awarded towards the team quota point.
  • If you are unable to find a time with your opponent to make it up over the next 3 weeks, please do not be afraid to use a sub in a make up. This is a much prefered solution to a 1-1 tie. Reach out to the Commish and he can make arrangements.
  • The IT Nerd will only update the stats only when a week is fully completed and only enter them in sequential order. In other words, I will only enter stats for Week 10 when all Week 10 matches have been played. I will also only enter Week 11 matches only after all Week 10 matches have been played.
    • What this means to you:
      • THERE WILL BE QUOTAS PUT OUT EVERY WEEK, BUT THEY ARE INFORMATIONAL ONLY. YOUR QUOTAS FOR WEEK 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 AND 15 ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! DO NOT ASSUME THE RESULT OF YOUR MATCH BASED ON THE QUOTA ON THE CARD.

      • There will be limited stats and standing updates until we are all caught up. Please check the website for updates.
  • When your make up is completed, please take a picture of the card and email or text it to myself or Chris.

Random Stats

TBO Golf recorded its 150,000 stroke in Week 6 this year.

If you consider the par 3’s to be the only holes where a player could record a hole in one, TBO Golf has had 8,960 chances to record one. If you throw in #13, we’ve had 11,200 chances to record a hole in one. Odds of an average golfer getting a hole in one? 12,500 to 1….

Double Par Counts:

  • Flight 1: 19
  • Flight 2: 12
  • Flight 3: 55

Stat Request

Got a stat request earlier this year to look at the player averages per hole. So I did. The below file has two tabs in it. One for each player’s average per hole over their career and by year. The second is what I’m calling ‘Player Efficiency’. I’ll explain that in a bit.

Here’s how to use the file.

  1. Open up the file (duh!)
  2. In Cell A2 on both tabs, select the golfer from the list you want to look at. Note that their is a ‘TBO League’ listed as a player. That will show you the entire league over the year.

File can be downloaded by clicking here —> HOLE BY HOLE

How to read the ‘Player Avg by Hole’ tab

After selecting a player, the player’s career average is displayed as the green bars. Each year the player has participated in TBO has a corresponding tick mark on the graph (blue diamond for 2008, etc..). You can see what your averages per hole each year; where you had good/bad years on a hole

Understanding ‘Player Efficiency’

When I started looking at the averages, a question in my head was “Are my numbers any good? How does my averages compare to my opponents?” So what I came up with was ‘Player Efficiency’

In a round of golf, par is what’s “expected” on each hole. As we all know, there are holes we all struggle with (fuck you #9!) and holes we all love to play (I’m looking at you #13!). Think of it like this: the lower you score on a hole, the more efficient you are (savings strokes). The higher you score on a hole, the less efficient you are (wasting strokes).

I’ll explain the formula in person if you are interested…would be a short novel.

How to Read ‘Player Efficiency’ tab

After selecting a player, you’ll see three sets of bars going in different directions.

First, you’ll need to know what a good or bad Efficiency Rating is. Think of par as the 100% or baseline number. Anything above 100% means efficiency on a hole. The higher that Rating is on a hole, the more you save strokes on that hole. Anyting below 100% means inefficiency on a hole. The lower that Rating is, the more you waste strokes on a hole.

Boiled down: The higher the bar, the better you are. The lower the bar, the more you suck.

  • The Green bars are the Efficiency Rating for the selected player
  • The Red bars are the Efficiency Rating for the other golfers in the selected player’s Flight
  • The Blue bars is the entire TBO League as a whole, across all Flights

See you bitches tomorrow!
